The design pattern observed in this vase can be traced back to the work style of silversmiths of ancient Madras. A silver vase that stands out with an elaborately depicted series of ten Hindu deities along the centre. These include Krishna with a cow, Durga with a lion, Karthikeye, Shiva’s son, on
a peacock, Ganesh on a mouse and Parvati on a
Nandi. Also to be found are two magnificent
deities, each one standing tall on either handle, in a compassionate Varada Mudra pose.
This lot is over one hundred years old or National Art Treasure, cannot be exported out of India as per Antiques and Art Treasures Act, 1972.
