The heavily decorated tapering bowl with acanthus leaves and grapevines is mounted on a sprawling hexagonal foot. The central knop is studded with red gem stones and acanthus leaves. The base is decorated and engraved with enameled medallions of the St. Mary, St. Joseph and the crucified Christ. The motif of acanthus leaves has been adopted extensively and gives the visual a continuous design
flow. Deftly carved grapevines and stalk of wheat which are symbolic and integral to the sacraments of Christianity can be observed as well. The lot has the lozenge mark and hallmark on the bowl and on the foot. The lozenge mark is stamped as L.G, which is
made by Louis & Pierre Gille in Lyon, France. The marker’s hallmark is the Head of Minerva. The lot comes along with its original fitted wooden case.
