Tagore was born in 1861 in Kolkata, India. He was a poet, short story writer, song composer, novelist, playwright, essayist and painter. He only took up drawing and painting at the age of 60. He explored possibilities of creative expression that were essentially integral to the domain of the visual, rather than a transliteration of that which was within the purview of the literary. The faces and heads in his paintings are independent pictorial expressions in their own right. His portrait heads are a unique style, deeply touching and universally appealing. He held successful exhibitions in the South of France, New Ireland and British Columbia. His works depict fantasy, mystery, bizarre beasts, mystic landscapes and nature.
Tagore passed away in 1941 in Kolkata.
