Vishwanath Pratap Singh was born in June 193 in Allahabad, now Uttar Pradesh, India. He began his artistic career by becoming an accomplished photographer. He then progressed to pencil sketches. He found a teacher at Allahabad who taught him wash painting and figurative drawing of the Bengal School. His works are academic in style, following the instructive style of the Bengal School. They are impressionist as well as expressionist in nature while there are a few non-figurative and surrealist works. He has exhibited his works in Delhi and Mumbai as well as London. After he joined politics and became the Prime Minister of India his artistic career was put on hold.
