Born in 1975, Avishek Sen is a contemporary Indian artist. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the Rabindra Bharati University in 1999. He graduated with a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Kalabhavan, Viswa Bharati University. Sen is really proficient with watercolours and over the years this medium has become his signature style. His hybrid animal forms stand for something larger and are a metaphor for different identities that we find within ourselves. His works exist somewhere in between the realm of dream and reality. In the year 2000, he was the recipient of the National Scholarship given by the Human Resources Development, Government of India. He was selected for an International Artist Residency at Point Éphémère, Paris in 2007 and another short term International Artist Residency at Gallery Béatrice Binoche, Reunion Island, France in 2008.
Over the years he has had solo exhibitions at various places like Apparao Galleries, Chennai, Albion Gallery, London, Gallery Espace, New Delhi and so on. In 2010 he was a part of the group show titled ‘Dali’s Elephant’ held at Aicon Gallery, London and has over the years participated in several art fairs like the Indian Art Fair, Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Scope New York and Art Singapore. The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
