Anant Joshi, born in Nagpur, Maharashtra in 1969, did his B.F.A. and M.F.A. (Painting) from Sir J.J. School of Art. Among his recent important shows are ‘May Look Closer than They Appear’ in collaboration with Willem Baars Art Consultancy (2008); ‘Nostrum – Towing Left Turning Right’, Kashi Art Gallery, Kochi (2007); and ‘Navel: One and Many’, Chemould Art Gallery, Mumbai (2007). He has featured in major shows like 'City- New Perspectives from India' at the House of World Cultures, Berlin, and has received several prestigious awards like 'Bendre Husain scholarship' and Bombay Art Society Award. He was selected for Rijksakademie, Amsterdam during the year 2002-03, and has also won the prestigious 'Prix De Rome' Award, Amsterdam. The fast-changing cityscape, urban culture, and other such transformations have a big impact on art as is evident in the new work of this artist with contemporary sensibilities.
