Dayanita Singh

Dayanita Singh was born in 1961. She began her career as a photojournalist, she is widely recognized as a revered photographer, however she places herself as a “bookmaker working with photography.” Dayanita Singh uses her photography to encapsulate and clarify the essence of the projection offered by photographic images. Her photographs imbibes the shape of her words that she arranges and the rearranges in order to establish elaborate narratives. The themes of these conglomeratic arrangements, more often than not, deal with the Indian life and culture. She has perfected a manner in which there is a distinct flow between the interconnected photographic series that she tends to revisit in various contexts, often in a book form. Singh experiments alternate forms of producing and viewing photographs. ;
