Dhruva Mistry

Dhruva Mistry was born in Kanjari, Gujarat in 1957. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S University, Baroda between 1974 and 1981. He then graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 1983 on a British Council Scholarship. His sculptures combine religious art history with popular kitsch art from the bazaar. His works carry with them a deep narrative as well as engaging. He received a fellowship from the Churchill College, Cambridge and then completed a residency at Kettleā€™s Yard Gallery from 1984-1985. He held his first solo show in 1994 at Fukuoka Annual VII, Japan. He was elected as a member of the Royal Academy of Arts in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of British Sculptors, London 1993. He was appointed as the Professor of Sculpture and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda from 1998-2002. He has exhibited nationally and internationally. He lives and works in Baroda.;
