Prakash Waghmare was born in 1966 in the small city of Roha. He soon moved to Mumbai to pursue his dreams and enrolled in the J.J School of Art. He graduated in 1990 with a first class grade in Fine Arts. While he was still studying at J.J, he received the Camlin Award in 1989. He was also honoured with the Bombay Art Society Award in the year 1993. Prakash’s works are meditative in nature and speak of the inner conscious. Given his themes of exploration, most of his works are abstract in nature. The five elements of nature - earth, water, air, fire and sky are ever present in his work. The artist claims that “My paintings are not the subjects of interpretation but composed happiness”.
Prakash Waghmare had his first solo exhibition in the year 1997 at the Jehangir Art Gallery. He has also participated in several group exhibitions including the ‘50 Years of Art in Mumbai 1947-97’ at National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Mumbai and Contemporary Indian Painting Exhibition in Edinburgh. In the year 1996, he participated in the 6th Biennale at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal. He has been a part of two national exhibitions: one held in 2001 in Bangalore and the other one in the year 2004 at Kochi. The artist lives and works in Mumbai. ;
