Ravi Kumar Kashi
The talented artist Ravi Kumar Kashi was born in 1968 in Bangalore. He commenced his journey by enrolling himself in the Chitrakala Parishat, Bangalore to pursue his Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. He graduated in the year 1988 and then went on to pursue a Master’s in printmaking from M.S University, Baroda. He even got a Master’s in Arts for English literature from Mysore University in 1995. Apart from that Ravi Kumar has also travelled quite a bit to hone and perfect his art. He went to Glasgow School of Art to learn handmade papermaking under the Charles Wallace India Trust granted to him in 2001 and to Jang Ji Bang, Korea to learn traditional Korean papermaking. Ravi Kumar refuses categorization as an artist and is still experimenting with various mediums like painting, sculpture, photography and installations. With his background in literature, he contributes to various newspapers and is the co-editor of a Kannada art and cultural magazine ‘Sanchaya’. Ravi Kumar is also the visiting faculty in the department of architecture at RVCE, Bangalore.
Ravi Kumar’s work leads to contemplation as the viewers realise the work has more to it than what initially meets the eye. His works reveal their secrets slowly and only if you are patient enough to look at them longer. He had his first solo exhibition in 1991 at the Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai and since then has exhibited in various cities across India and abroad. He has been honoured with the Karnataka Lalit Kala Akademi award twice between the years 1990 to 1999. He was the recipient of the national award in the 42nd National exhibition conducted by the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in 2000. The artist currently lives and works in his native Bangalore. ;
