He did his BFA from Sir J.J. School of Arts, Mumbai, and later completed his MFA from Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University, Baroda in the late eighties. The awards and scholarships he has won include Merit scholarship for Sculpture, Sir J.J. School of Arts (1984-1988), 1990-1992 Fellowship Award, Kanoria Centre for Art, 1995 Inlaks Scholarship for Sculpture, Residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam, Netherlands (1998-2000), and Majlis Fellowship for the Arts (2005).
His select participations include a group show at Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai (1993), Young Contemporaries, Lakeeren Gallery for Contemporary Art, Mumbai (1995), ‘100 Years of Cinema’, Group Show, Lakereen Gallery (1996), ‘Collaborative Space’ by Pundole Art Gallery (1997), ‘Edge of the Century’, Vadhera Art Gallery, New Delhi (1998), ‘Icons of the Millennium’, Lakereen Gallery for Contemporary Art, Mumbai (1999), and ‘Alchemy’, The Stephen Lawrence Gallery, Greenwich, London (2002). He featured in a Video show curated by Sharmila Samant in 2003 at Gallery Chemould apart from Video Presentations, Pabellon de Cuba, Vedado, Havana Biennale, Cuba, ‘Video Art from India’, SESC, Pinheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil (2005), and video art shows at Tate Modern, London, Busan Museum of Modern Art, Busan, Korea and Gulf Art Fair, Dubai, presented by Gallery Chemould, Mumbai in 2007. Tushar Joag lives and works in Mumbai.
